We spend six days of the week looking forward to Sunday, but then spend it not knowing what to do with ourselves. It’s the absolute worst feeling. It’s not just about procrastinating — sure, we’re all guilty of spending a little too much time scrolling through our social media accounts and watching silly videos. But that’s one right we’ve earned after slogging through the work week! The aimlessness of Sundays can still make us feel useless though, and the freedom and abundance of time to be able to dedicate to anything we want can be too bewildering. There’s just no clear direction to throw our energy in.
It’s all about balance though — taking time for yourself through Netflix, and other more productive tasks. Here are some basic tips to get you going!
1. Start Your Day With A Morning Walk
Waking up before work to exercise sounds like committing to a second job — which sounds like a hard pass! Going after work is equally impossible because the only thing we can think of is heading straight home and into bed. Sunday is your day though. Exercise is the best way to start off your morning on a great note. Try yoga or running, but if you’re not used to working out, try a simple morning walk. Waking up to do something solely for yourself can be a rewarding feeling, and the walk itself can feel extremely therapeutic and calming. If you aren’t able to take stock of the important things during your week because of your busy schedule, then maybe Sunday mornings can be self-reflective. This can make a vital improvement to both your physical, and your mental health. It’ll keep you super fresh throughout the day too!
2. Make A To-Do List For The Week
Managing multiple tasks every day can be really tough, but we often don’t have a choice. Responsibilities and duties are just that. Instead of messing up your schedule every day and causing yourself even more stress, it’s better to make a to-do list for the week on Sunday evening. It’ll sort out your upcoming schedule, and also give you more confidence — with everything laid out in front of you, you’ll feel like you have a much better handle on everything. Done and dusted!
3. Clean Out Your Inbox
Whether you’re studying or working, we all have those teachers or colleagues that flood our inboxes all day long, often mixing up the important ones with the junk. Clean your inbox out on a free day. It doesn’t take as much time as you’ll think, and the organisation will give you all the satisfaction in the world.
4. Cook!
If you enjoy cooking then the best way to spend a lazy day is in the kitchen. Try a new recipe, cook an old favourite, or prep lunch meals for the rest of the week! This last one will save you time during the week, and often when we’re too tired to cook and end up ordering in, it can help us save money too. Cooking can be super therapeutic as well, so the best tip is to just turn on some music and get to work!
5. Organize Your Closet
This is one is definitely the hardest. Looking at our messy closets is more than intimidating, but the struggle of searching for clothes every day is getting too much. It’s time we did ourselves a favour and organised our closets. You might need to muster up a lot of motivation for this, but you’ll thank yourself later.
6. Have Some Me Time
Between a busy schedule and general work-load, we hardly get time to pamper ourselves. Whenever you get the chance, head to your favourite spa and get a manicure, pedicure, or massage: anything that helps you relax and unwind.
