Donning a traditional Jinnah cap, Mahershala Ali is the first Black man, as well as the first Muslim man to win two Best Supporting Role Oscars, for his characters in Moonlight and The Green Book. He thanked his grandmother in his speech, for always supporting him.

Lady Gaga is truly a force to be reckoned with. After winning an Oscar for Best Original Song for “Shallow”, she went on to deliver a speech that had everyone moved. “If you are at home and you’re sitting on your couch and you’re watching this right now, all I have to say is this is hard work,” she began with tears in her eyes. “I have worked hard for a long time and and it’s not about winning. What it’s about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. There’s a discipline for passion: it’s not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down and get beaten up, but how many times you stand up, and are brave and you keep on going.”

A documentary about menstruation won an Oscar

An Indian documentary about menstruation called Period. The End Of A Sentence. Took home the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short. Producer, Guneet Monga was over the moon as she said, “Periods are normal and in no way do they stop us from achieving anything. Every girl in India or anywhere around the world needs to know this and hear this loud and clear. Period is an end of a sentence, but not a girl’s education. Now, that we have an Oscar, let’s go change the world,” she went on to add.

Olivia Coleman’s speech for Best Actress had everyone in hysterics

Completely caught off guard, Olivia Coleman went up to accept her award for Best Actress for her work as Queen Anne in The Favourite. Clearly she wasn’t expecting her win as she stumbled through her acceptance speech, complete with fart noises added in for effect.
